Mike Kruz

Who is DJ Mike Kruz? While many had already broken their New Year’s resolutions, Mike Kruz was initiating his, first with a 2010 move to Miami... In the relatively short time after, Mike has made considerable waves in South Florida, starting with an addition to the talented roster of the Scratch DJ Academy, “The world’s leading brand in the dj booking space (scratch-events.com).”  That partnership has allowed him to play for a list of clients including BCBG, Details Magazine and GQ Magazine.  Nightclubs and lounges have followed suit, with Kruz having mixed at Shore Club, Automatic Slim’s, Ecco Lounge and more.  His demand even stretches into international waters, being hand-picked to be a celebrity guest dj aboard select Norwegian Cruise Line ships to the Bahamas, the Caribbean and Mexico.  This includes the distinction of being a featured entertainer on NCL’s posh new super-cruiser, the Norwegian Epic.  Out from behind the decks and onto the microphone, Mike can also be heard on Miami’s top-rated radio station, 101.5 LITE-FM, as a weekend personality.  It’s a professional club and radio background that spans over 10 years that has provided Kruz with the experience to thrive under the heat of the spotlight.

Mike Kruz lives to move people.  Whether that be taken literally with party goers grooving to his mixes on the dance floor, or the feeling inside that they walk away with at the end of the night, Kruz finds nothing more satisfying than orchestrating a musical journey for the masses.  Creativity runs wild when Mike plays, blending hip-hop, house, rock, reggae, old school classics or an artful mash of all that and more.  Love for and knowledge of music was instilled early on.  Growing up in Binghamton, NY, Mike became fascinated with his father’s record collection that included wax from Led Zeppelin, Tears for Fears and Michael Jackson.  It’s no surprise that Kruz now makes his living using similar turntables and vinyl.

Mike learned his craft while studying broadcast journalism at Syracuse University and hasn’t looked back.  S.U.’s WJPZ (Z89) gave Kruz opportunity to develop both his broadcast personality and dj skills on the air.  During his final two years, Kruz found himself co-hosting and mixing for the already successful “Friday Night Party”.  Taking the mix-show to even higher ratings brought about recognition and demand for Mike and the rest of the “Triple Threat” (DJ Splyce and DJ Double-A), both on and off campus.  Playing for the student and the student-athlete alike, the trio entertained the likes of Donovan McNabb at his NFL draft party and rocked countless others at venues like The Country Club and Club Liquids.

Following college, Kruz returned to Binghamton and radio there (WMRV, WWYL), while also playing at clubs inside and outside of town, including NYC (Club Heaven).  Burlington, VT and nights at KISS-FM (WVTK) came next for Mike, also lending his talents on the turntables to the bars and clubs while there.  A short six months later, he got the call to work at the legendary WKRZ in Scranton, PA.  At 98.5 KRZ, Kruz not only hosted evenings, but also contributed mixes to specialty programming.

Mike took Charleston, SC by storm after landing there in December of 2005.  In addition to being heard on and mixing for WIHB (B92), Kruz held down residencies at various hotspots like Purple Tree Lounge, Light, Wasabi, Tsunami and Market Street Saloon along with a monthly guest spot at Saya Lounge in Savannah, GA.  This doesn't even include frequent engagements at Torch Velvet Lounge, Shine, Trio Club, Johnson's Pub and more.  Kruz was also featured on the cover and inside the pages of Graffiti Magazine in an article that profiled local djs (January, 2008).  He was instrumental in the launch of Aloft Hotel (a division of W Hotels) in Charleston, playing at their inaugural party with DJ Annalyze (September, 2008) and New Year's Eve 2009 with DJ Shortee.  Quite simply, his name became synonymous with progressive nightlife while there.

With larger goals than being a household name in Charleston, Mike made the move to the nightlife mecca of Miami, where he works and plays today.  From Syracuse to South Carolina to South Beach and beyond, Kruz continues to share his passion with, "Those who have ears that will listen and feet that will dance."
